The AFib Quality Improvement Framework (AFQIF) video introduces a comprehensive approach to improving atrial fibrillation (AFib) care. Despite AFib being the most common arrhythmia, it remains underdiagnosed and undertreated, resulting in serious risks such as disabling strokes.

Quality improvement (QI) in healthcare is challenging due to fragmented systems, limited resources, and operational barriers. To address these challenges, the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) and the BMS-Pfizer Alliance developed the AFib QI framework after extensive research, pilots, and feedback.

The framework is built on six core pillars:

  1. Prepare
  2. Engage
  3. Design
  4. Implement
  5. Report
  6. Sustain/Scale

Each pillar includes detailed sub-steps to guide healthcare providers in creating measurable, sustainable QI interventions. The framework’s flexibility allows for tailored approaches based on specific healthcare system needs.

The digital tool, available on CardiQ.org, includes a curated resource library maintained by HRS volunteers, offering tools, articles, and other resources to support AFib QI programs. Whether users seek a full QI framework or specific resources, CardiQ.org offers valuable support for the AFib care improvement journey.
