The Atrial Fibrillation Quality Improvement (AF QI) Framework on CardiQ.org is designed to help healthcare professionals close gaps in AFib treatment through quality improvement. Developed by the Heart Rhythm Society in collaboration with the BMS-Pfizer Alliance, the framework is based on improvement science and provides a structured approach for enhancing AFib care.

The AF QI Framework consists of six core pillars:

  1. Prepare – Establish a strong foundation and justify the need for AFib care improvement.
  2. Engage – Build and activate a committed project team, including key stakeholders and executive champions.
  3. Design – Develop a detailed project plan, including goals, interventions, metrics, and resources.
  4. Implement – Execute the plan, refine strategies, and address challenges.
  5. Report – Measure progress using predefined outcomes and share best practices.
  6. Sustain/Scale – Integrate improvements into healthcare culture and expand successful initiatives.

The framework is flexible, allowing teams to follow all steps or focus on specific pillars to strengthen existing initiatives. CardiQ.org also offers a resource library with best practices, care pathways, business plans, and checklists to support AFib management. Healthcare leaders can use the AF QI Framework as a step-by-step guide or customize it to fit their improvement goals.
